In March 2023, the Texas Tropical Network partnered with the LLILAS Brazil Center and Fara Coffee to host a roundtable on sustainability in Amazonia, where participants learned from a variety of Brazilian and American experts about the fate of forests and forest peoples under the Bolsonaro and Lula presidencies.

In September 2023, the Texas Tropical Network hosted Rhett Butler, Founder and CEO of Mongabay, for three public lectures as well as classroom and field site visits. Attendees learned from Rhett about science communication, the state of environmental journalism, and the fate of the world's tropical forests.

In December 2022, the Texas Tropical Network held its inaugural event, a symposium on Sustainability Challenges in Latin American Forests and Grasslands. The Network heard from two professors and a graduate student from Texas State University, Texas A&M University, and UT Austin on issues ranging from narco-deforestation to grassland conversion for carbon credits.

In April 2023, the Texas Tropical Network partnered with the UT Integrative Biology Department to bring esteemed agro-ecologist John Vandermeer to campus. The Network hosted a lunch for graduate students, post-docs, and early-career profess-ionals to meet Dr. Vandermeer and discuss developments in tropical agriculture, ecological theory, and academic life.
